UltraTech Ultra Drain Guards for Stormwater Pollution Prevention
Stormwater Pollution Prevention
It’s a great time of year to start preparing for the upcoming stormy fall and winter seasons. Stormwater runoff is generated from rain and snow melt that flows over land such as streets, parking lots, building rooftops and does not soak into the ground. This runoff can pick up pollutants like trash, chemicals, oils and dirt. One of the major concerns from storms is the potential impact on our water system as debris and contaminants from stormwater runoff enter the water system. The EPA regulates stormwater discharges from construction sites, industrial activities, municipal sources and transportation sources under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES). One way to mitigate these issues is to prepare your drains with drain guards.
Drain Guards
Each Drain Guard is engineered to filter stormwater waste before it becomes a problem in the water system. As a storm drain filter, it removes contaminants like litter, sand, and oil from the stormwater flow. Each drain guard is made of a geotextile fabric that is easy to install, making it ideal for industrial facilities, construction sites, and parking lots. Each exceeds 80% sediment removal efficiency. We offer three different models to meet your needs.
The UltraTech’s Ultra Drain Trash and Debris Guard is designed specifically to catch larger items and floatables like leaves cigarette butts and paper goods. The Oil and Sediment Model removes up to .87 gallons of hydrocarbons as well ad dirt, sand and other contaminants. The Oil and Sediment Plus Model is made with the addition of Ultra-X-Tex filter strips that increase oil and grease absorption by .51 gallons. This offers a total capacity of 1.38 gallons of hydrocarbon removal.
Easy to Install and Maintain
Installation of all of our Drain Guards is as easy as raising the grate, placing the Drain Guard over the opening, and carefully lowering the grate back into place. We recommend pinching the the fabric in place to keep it secure as a final step.
The Ultra-Drain Guard filters are designed to be used for 3 to 6 months under normal conditions. If heavy contamination is present, we recommend changing the drain guards out sooner or when the unit has collected about six inches of sediment. The unit should also be replaced if free oil can be seen floating and is not being absorbed. All drain gurads should be inspected on a regular basis.
